Description

Narcissus 'Early Sensation' is an early-flowering trumpet daffodil, appreciated by gardeners for its fragrant blooms at the start of the season.  It looks wonderful with tulips and hyacinths.

This generous bulbous plant produces a medium green clump of linear leaves, in the shape of a gutter. In February, it bears bright yellow trumpet flowers at the end of rigid stems. The flowers are solitary and hanging, with a corolla shorter than the crown. The blooming lasts for about fifteen days.

Originally from the Mediterranean, Narcissus 'Early Sensation' appreciates all well-drained, moist soils that are not too rich. It is happy in full sun or partial shade. This hardy plant comes back every year without any problem.

To help the bulbs replenish their reserves, remove faded flowers and only cut the foliage once it is completely dry.

Narcissus plants are toxic if ingested!

Narcissus 'Early Sensation' can be planted in pots, rockeries, flower beds, woodlands, borders, or in the middle of a lawn. It looks wonderful in bouquets.

Tip: cut flowers last a long time, but their sap is harmful to other flowers. Before arranging your bouquet, let the narcissus flowers soak overnight in clear water.

Planting and care

Plant Narcissus 'Early Sensation' bulbs in September and October, at a depth of 10 to 15cm (4 to 6in). Plant them in slightly acidic, clayey, moist soil, but without stagnant humidity. The bulbs remain in place for several years and naturalise well in full sun or partial shade. After flowering, apply a bulb flower fertiliser, especially for potted plants. To help the bulbs replenish their reserves, remove faded flowers and only cut the foliage once it is completely dry.
