Description

'Peach Swirl' Narcissus is a spring bulb that produces exceptional delicately scented flowers, which are very double with a white perianth and a beautiful bright orange crown. They are borne on long stems at a height of 35-40cm (14-16in). These flowers emit a sweet fragrance. Its green foliage is deciduous. The leaves are ensate in shape, with entire margins.

Narcissus are increasingly popular today because they are synonymous with spring. This variety reaches a height of 40cm (16in) when fully grown. Originating from the Mediterranean basin, this narcissus can be found in flower beds, short grass meadows, rockeries, as well as in pots. Its flowers can be put in a vase, though it is best not to mix them with other flowers.

Narcissus is one of the most resilient autumn-planted bulbs. It is a faithful plant that comes back every year.

The narcissus comes from a Greek legend in which a handsome young man rejected the love of the nymph Echo. As a punishment, the gods made him love nothing but his own reflection. When he perched above a fountain to drink, Narcissus saw his reflection and remained in contemplation of it until he drowned. He then transformed into a flower.

Planting and care

Place the 'Peach Swirl' Daffodils in full sun or partial shade. Very easy to grow, they can tolerate both the shade of a woodland and a sunny flower bed. They prefer moist but well-drained soils. Plant them in autumn, at a depth of 15 cm (6in) and spaced 10 cm (4in) apart. Group them in minimum clusters of 5 bulbs, in uniform colours or in a mix. You can plant them in the short grass meadow. In this case, lift the turf, dig and loosen the soil to a depth of at least 20 cm (8in) (the depth of a spade). Plant your bulbs, cover with soil and replace the turf. Choose a spot where you won't mow, as it is necessary to let the daffodil leaves wither before cutting them. It is at this moment that the bulb reconstitutes itself and prepares the flowers for the following year. However, remember to cut the flowers as soon as they have faded to avoid seed formation. This would unnecessarily exhaust the bulb. Also, cut the leaves when they have turned yellow and apply fertiliser at that time, not before. Maintain regular watering during the growing season and let the soil dry out once the foliage is mature.
