Anemone blanda White Splendour is a delightful spring anemone, a version with bright white flowers. This charming and undemanding bulbous plant will be appreciated for its ability to quickly form large flowering carpets from the first beautiful days of spring. Mix Anemone blanda, their colours blend very well together! Plant them in masses at the base of shrubs or deciduous hedges: foolproof, they require no maintenance and withstand perfectly dry and hot summers.
Anemone blanda is a herbaceous perennial plant with tuberous roots from the family Ranunculaceae. Native to mountainous areas of Greece and Turkey, it is sometimes called the Balkan windflower. 'White Splendour' is a small plant, about 15cm (6in) in all directions, with a spreading cushion habit, hardy and resistant to summer drought. It naturally reseeds in light soils. Its delicate foliage resembles parsley, it is dark green, finely cut and strongly toothed. It appears early in spring, depending on the climate, at the same time the flowers fade, then disappears in autumn, sometimes in the middle of summer if the soil is dry. The flowers bloom in large numbers, from the month of March. They resemble small daisies, quite wide for the species, about 4 to 5cm (2in), composed of about fifteen white petals with a tint of pink on the reverse, arranged around the light yellow heart of the flower. The flowering is followed by the formation of numerous seeds that easily germinate in light soil, not always faithfully compared to the mother plant, especially when several varieties are present in the garden.
Very floriferous, easy to grow in well-drained soil, the windflower anemone appreciates the sun in early spring, but likes to be a little shaded in hot climates in summer. This small plant eventually forms large colonies through spontaneous self-seeding. Spreading as groundcover, it brightens up flower beds, rockeries or borders from spring and helps to create charming planters for balconies, patios , and window sills. The flowers of Anemone blanda, in pastel or brighter shades, work wonders under trees and shrubs with spring flowering, especially under Apple trees, Flowering Cherry trees, and Magnolias.
A tip: we really like these flowers to be combined with the emerging foliage of peonies in spring!

Botanical data
Plant in the autumn, in good, not too compact garden soil, at a depth of 8 cm (3in) spaced 8 cm (3in) apart. Soak the corms for 24/48 hours before planting them. If necessary, lighten your garden soil with compost and river sand. Anemone blanda tolerates the presence of limestone in the soil quite well and perfectly tolerates (or even likes) dry soils in summer. Mulch in winter to protect the plant in very cold regions. Our advice: It is only after two or three years that it will reach its full potential.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
