Small, very vigorous bulbs... I put them in a pot and protected them in winter, then took them out in early May... the leaves are stunning with their graphics and colour... almond green... and small flowers appear (mid-May) – a very beautiful plant, not very tall but rare...

Description

The Oxalis adenophylla is a perennial that forms a tuft. This variety has a bright flowering that easily reappears every year from June to July. This flowering is composed of pretty small pinkish funnel-shaped flowers. The heart and veins of these solitary flowers are darker. They measure from 1 to 3 cm (0 to 1in) in diameter.

This Oxalis thrives by covering all the available ground. Its grey-green foliage enhances its appeal. The leaves are finely cut. They are heart-shaped and measure from 1 to 2 cm (0 to 1in) long. The foliage disappears during the coldest months and quickly reappears with the arrival of spring. This perennial is small in size. It grows up to 5 cm (2in) tall.

Originating from Chile, Argentina, and the Andes, the Oxalis adenophylla grows in high-altitude mountains. This explains why it has excellent hardiness. It is an ideal plant for rock gardens. It is widely used for balcony decoration as well as an indoor plant. It can be cultivated in borders and rockeries. The Oxalis also thrives in pots.

Planting and care

The Oxalis is planted from September to December. For a beautiful flowering, cultivate it in direct sunlight, in a bright location. The soil must be dry and well-drained. Plant it at a depth of 10 cm (4in) with 10 cm (4in) spacing between the bulbs. Avoid excessive watering and thoroughly wet the ground. The Oxalis may be prone to rust. Snails and slugs devour it.
