Tulipa Mata Hari - Triumph Tulip

The 'Mata Hari' Triumph Tulip bears an elegant flower, both in the curve of its corolla and in its white colour edged with raspberry red. They bloom quite late, around May, on very sturdy stems. Their charm will be irresistible in a flower border or mass planting, but also in floral arrangements. They look stunning amidst muscari and blue hyacinths!

The 'Mata Hari' Triumph Tulip belongs to the Lily family. Of horticultural origin, introduced to the market in 1996, it is currently classified in the 'Triumph' group, whose main characteristic is to have flowers with narrow cups. The 'Triumph' tulips are the result of a cross-breeding between "early single" tulips and "Darwin" tulips. This 'Mata Hari' variety develops a sturdy floral stem of about 45 cm (18in) in height. Its flower measures approximately 6 cm (2in) in diameter, it is bicoloured, with white heavily edged with intense pink-red. A flowering that occurs between late April and May, towards the end of the tulip season. The foliage emerges from the ground in spring. It is composed of large lanceolate leaves, 10 to 35 cm (4 to 14in) long, with a glaucous green colour that turns yellow and then dries out a few weeks after flowering, when the bulb enters its dormant period.

Triumph tulips are remarkable for brightening up pots and flower beds in spring. Don't forget to consider the height and flowering period when designing your flower beds, as these parameters vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for cutting, as they make gorgeous cut flowers that last a long time in a vase. The 'Mata Hari' tulip can be planted in groups in large flower beds, in combination with other white, pink, mauve, or purple tulips, but also in the company of blue flowers. Forget-me-nots, wood hyacinths, or grape hyacinths will enhance its warm tones. Plant this tulip amidst perennials that will hide its absence in summer. For example, among purple or pink heucheras, perennial geraniums such as 'Rozanne' or 'Patricia'.
