Description

A collection of 3 Giant Decorative Dahlias with warm colors! Their double flowers, with variable shapes, bloom abundantly from July until the first frost, on vigorous plants. You will appreciate the dazzling combination of salmon orange and red in their magnificent corollas, carried by purple stems, both in the garden and in a large vase in the living room. Beautiful association with flowers of violet sage grasses.

This collection consists of:

-1x Dahlia 'Deep Impact': flowers measuring up to 15 cm (6in) in diameter, double, slightly flattened, and of a soft orange with traces of coppery pink, rosy brown, or apricot depending on the soil and climate. They have excellent durability due to their structure that allows rain to flow. Height: 1 m (3ft), purple stems.

-1x Dahlia 'Maxime': 12 cm (5in) flowers, very double, rounded, made up of multiple incurved ligules or petals in red color bordered by a fine yellow to white line. The floral stems, thin but strong, are purple in color. Height: 90 cm (35in).

1x Dahlia 'Barbarossa': 20 cm (8in) flowers, round and flat in shape, semi-double or sometimes double, offering a superb uniform scarlet red color. Perched on long stems over a meter tall, they give a special relief to the background of flowerbeds. Height: 1.30 m (4ft), purple stems.

To promote flower reblooming, make sure to remove faded flowers, or even better, regularly make large colorful bouquets by combining them with other varieties. With their large warm-colored flowers, the dahlias in this collection go particularly well with white or violet flowers. In flowerbeds, they will create warm and bright spots in the company of Asters, for example, which bloom at the same time, as well as grasses at their peak of beauty or Echinaceas. They also allow for late-season bouquet arrangements.

As the star plant of borders and herb gardens, Dahlias confidently accompany the most beautiful flowers but are also appreciated alongside vegetable plants. In Mexico, this tuberous plant was first cultivated as a root vegetable for consumption. But its poor taste qualities assigned it the rank of an ornamental plant. Since then, the interest in their beautiful exuberance has never waned.

Planting and care

Plant your dahlias in the spring in deeply worked soil, enriched for example with crushed horn or dehydrated blood. Place your tuber and crumble the soil well to fill it without any air pockets. Your dahlia should be covered with 6 cm (2in) of soil. At the end of planting, pour a litre of water. Water regularly during the first 6 weeks to help with rooting. Dahlias are sensitive to cold, they need to be overwintered under protection. In November, the first frosts will blacken the foliage, it's time to dig them up. Carefully remove the tubers. Remove as much soil as possible. Let the foliage dry so that the tuber can replenish its reserves. When the foliage is dry, cut the stems to 10 cm (4in) from the tuber. Spread your bulbs in a box on a newspaper. Store in a frost-free, dry, cool, and dark place.
