Dahlia Gallery Pablo

The Dahlia Gallery Pablo, with a range of warm and vibrant shades, offers dense and well-double flowers, adorned with a superb pink-orange colour, with a carmine reverse and a splash of gold in the center. The spectacle of its flowering begins in June and lasts until the first frosts. Like all varieties in the Gallery series, it is a plant with a very compact habit, boasting excellent floribundity, specifically developed for ornamental containers and flower beds.

Dahlias, from the asteraceae family, are originally native to the high plateaus of Mexico. At present, the some 25,000 horticultural varieties obtained by humans have invaded gardens worldwide, much to our delight.
The 'Gallery Pablo' variety is a dwarf dahlia related to Decorative and Cactus dahlias. The plant will not exceed 40 to 45 cm (16 to 18in) in all directions, with a bushy and compact habit, not requiring staking. This variety blooms from June to October-November. The dense flower heads measure approximately 7 cm (3in) in diameter and resemble pretty flattened and regular balls, composed of numerous rows of ligulate petals slightly curved towards the stem, with a complex colour combination of pink-orange, carmine, and bright yellow in the center. At the end of flowering, the yellow central disc becomes visible. The very branching stems are hollow and the leaves are opposite and divided into 3 or 5 denticulate lobes. The leaves and stems are dark green.

 
To encourage repeat flowering and extend the flowering period, take care to remove faded flowers. Even better, regularly cut them to create charming colourful bouquets by combining various varieties.

'Gallery Pablo', wonderful in a flowering pot, also thrives at the front of borders or in beds. Like its siblings in the Gallery series, it pairs particularly well with the foliage of grasses; Pennisetum villosum, a lovely feathery grass, Hordeum jubatum (Squirreltail barley), or Muhlenbergia capillaris will bring softness and delicacy to the setting. It also complements yellow blooms, especially the plump buds of old-fashioned roses or Generosa roses. Its association with compact goldenrods or coreopsis creates remarkably colourful scenes.

The star plant of borders and herb gardens, Dahlias confidently accompany the most beautiful flowers as well as the humblest vegetables. They allow for beautiful flowering pots or charming bouquets. In Mexico, this tuberous plant was initially cultivated as a root vegetable for consumption. However, its poor taste qualities relegated it to the status of an ornamental plant. Since then, interest in their beautiful exuberance has never waned.
