Description

The Alstromeria Inticancha White Pink Blush is one of the Inca Lilies from the wonderful Inticancha series that offers the most refined colouration; its lily flowers with watercolour tones have beautiful macules of a fairly deep pink and are delicately streaked with brown. With its well-rounded and compact habit and continuous flowering from June to October, it is perfect for adding life to flower pots on the terrace or balcony! Its flowers, borne on strong stems, are perfect for cutting. Moderately hardy, this perennial proves to be easy to grow as an annual and requires very little maintenance for fantastic results. It thrives in partial shade or morning sun, in light, not too dry soil.

The Alstroemeria Inticancha® White Pink Blush is a recent variety, resulting from the hybridization of several tuberous species native to South America, particularly the Chilean Andes. These high-altitude plants belonging to the amaryllidaceae family are more or less hardy, appreciate cool, well-drained soil in lightly wooded and fresh areas. Slow to establish, they can disappear or become invasive! Quirky but fantastic plants, very sensitive to growing conditions, they are "indestructible" once the right spot is found. The word "Inticancha" means "temple of the sun" in the Inca language.

'Inticancha® White Pink Blush', like all the plants in the Inticancha® series, is not difficult to grow in good potting soil. The plant quickly forms bushy clumps with leafy stems reaching 40 to 45 cm (16 to 18in) in height when in flower, with a spread of 30-35 cm (12-14in). Flowering takes place from June to October-November. The flowers, very open, 4 cm (2in) wide, are gathered in terminal umbels. They consist of 3 small central petals, white with a deep pink macule and streaked with brown, surrounded by 3 larger, lanceolate petals, more or less shaded with pink and heavily maculated with deep pink on a white background. The flower's center has discreet pink stamens. Each plant can produce at least 30 flowers. The foliage is arranged on the upper part of the stems. The leaves of this variety are medium green-blue in colour. The foliage and stems disappear in winter, leaving only the underground stump with fleshy roots that can withstand frost down to -5/-8°C. The stump is sensitive to the shock of transplantation, especially in older plants.

The Alstroemeria 'Inticancha® 'White Pink Blush' is a superb variety for potted flower displays and cut flowers. On the terrace or balcony, it forms a flower bouquet that rivals the brightness and generosity of balcony geraniums. In flower beds, this plant pairs well, for example, with hardy orchids, toad lilies, or even ornamental grasses, which are complementary; Stipa, small Miscanthus, or Muhlenbergia capillaris will accompany it with their magnificent late-season blooms. Ceratostigma plumbaginoides, with intense blue flowers and red foliage in October, can also be planted at its base. With the Inticacha Alstroemerias, it is very easy to create a kaleidoscope in a large planter on the terrace. A marvel!

Note: Attention, our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before being installed outdoors once the risk of frost is definitively eliminated.

Planting and care

The Inticancha Alstroemerias are planted in spring, choosing a location in the morning sun or partial shade, in a light, well-drained soil, well-worked, with a tendency to sandy or loamy and slightly acidic soil, and not too fertile. While they appreciate coolness to support their flowering, they adapt quite well to dry soils in summer. The Inticancha White Pink Blush variety is moderately hardy, down to -10 or -12°C (14 or 10.4°F), if the soil remains dry in winter. The stump can be protected by a thick mulch of leaves or fern fronds in autumn. Slugs love young shoots; make sure to protect them. Growing them in pots allows you to shelter the plants from frost by storing them in a bright, well-ventilated and minimally heated room.
