I needed 18 different types of canas, but here they come in sets of 3. It would have been interesting to be able to buy them individually, even if a bit more expensive. What a shame. Have a good day, everyone.

Description

Canna Brilliant, formerly known as Indian Shot, is a brick red colour, enhanced by its large green leaves reminiscent of those of a banana tree (a distant botanical cousin). It is of medium size, about 1 metre (3 feet).

It will flower from July until the first frost. Consider planting it in a bed with about ten bulbs, of the same variety or mixed with varieties with purple foliage. Be careful to dig up the bulb before the first frost, as it is susceptible to freezing.

Planting and care

Canna doesn't like the cold and should be protected from frost during winter. When planting it in the ground, it should only be done after the last frosts. It should also be stored away at the first frost to keep the bulbs dry and cool, for example in a bit of turf. Plant them in a moist but well-drained soil (if necessary, lighten your soil with some turf or sand). Cover with 5cm (2in) of soil, and keep a spacing of 40cm (16in) between the bulbs. Apply organic fertilizer at planting and at least once a month. Water regularly so that the soil never completely dries out. You can also speed up their growth cycle by planting them in pots in a frost-free shelter as early as February, and then transplant them to the garden when the weather is warmer (June in the North of France). You can also cultivate them in pots (1 bulb per pot).
