Description

Beautiful perennial plants that we use abundantly in our exotic garden. They have strong, slender, yet flexible stems that bear long, narrow, opposite leaves with a slight fishbone-like appearance. They thrive in a rich, deep soil that never lacks water during the growing season, and they prefer a warm exposure, as their flowers, all more or less fragrant, bloom late in our garden. In hotter regions, they may appear as early as August. They slowly grow into majestic, spectacular clumps thanks to their powerful underground rootstocks.

Upright stems with very narrow foliage. Orange-yellow and white flowers in spikes, highly fragrant. Shorter growth than others, better suited for borders or small gardens.

Planting and care

Reputedly not hardy due to their poor resistance to cold, we nevertheless leave the stumps in the ground for about 9 to 10 years and none have died so far. At the first frosts, we cut back the foliage to the ground and then mulch the stumps with a thick litter layer of dead leaves. This has always been sufficient so far. Alternatively, the stump can be dug up and treated as with cannas. Stumps are only shipped in clumps from March to May.
