Floraison de juin - image 1

Thanks to the individuals (? order preparation & Shauna from the shipping department), the 3 bulbs I received appear to be healthy. Planted near the pink roses "Fragonard", "Comtesse Marie Henriette / Mme de Maintenon" & "Paris d'Yves Saint Laurent", I am looking forward to seeing their growth...

The 'Elodie' double Asian lily brings spring back in the heart of summer. This delightful pale pink variety has double flowers, widely open to the sky, in a pale pink tinged with cream and discreetly dotted with black towards the centre. They bloom on sturdy stems capable of holding up to 6 flowers at the same time. It is a reliable plant that blooms faithfully. It will bring charm and freshness to borders or large rock gardens. It is also a wonderful cut flower.
Lilium 'Elodie' is a bulbous plant from the Liliaceae family. It is a hybrid horticultural creation dating back to 2003, classified in the group of double-flowered oriental lilies. The vegetation emerges from the ground in spring and forms a narrow and vertical clump that will reach an average height of 85 cm (34in) when in bloom. The clump will spread indefinitely over time, as the bulbs produce bulblets through vegetative multiplication. The spectacular flowering takes place from June to August, earlier or later depending on the climate. Along the sturdy stems, several flowers appear grouped in umbels, standing upright. They have a fleshy and waxy texture. Their colour is a light and pure pink, sometimes washed with cream in the centre or along the edges. Towards the throat, the petals are sprinkled with a few almost black spots. The peculiarity of these flowers lies in their duplication; in the heart of the flower, there is a corolla formed by 6 smaller petals, divided into irregular lobes, surrounded by a rank of 6 larger outer petals. Another unusual fact is that the stamens produce no pollen. The stems are very sturdy and covered with alternate, medium green, narrow, and shiny leaves. The flowers are borne on almost black pedicels.
This lily prefers rich humus soil with good drainage. You can grow it with perennial plants or sparse and compact bushes such as caryopteris or dwarf roses, which will provide some shade at its base. These will help prevent the stems from bending in the wind. 'Elodie' pairs well with daylilies in harmonious tones, chamomiles, and catmints. The lily is ideal for borders and, of course, cut flowers.

Botanical data
The 'Elodie' double lily likes humus-rich, slightly chalky, well-drained and light soils. Plant it in full sun, preferably in spring, burying the bulbs 15 cm (6in) deep in soil mixed with leaf compost. A pocket of sand will help to avoid rotting as well as attacks from slugs. Mark the planting location, as vegetation only starts in April.
When the stems reach 30 cm (12in) high, discreetly stake them. If red lily beetles appear, treat them immediately, as their larvae can devour all the leaves. The most effective method is to catch them manually but be careful as they drop as soon as touched. After flowering, it is a good idea to cut the faded flowers halfway down so that the bed remains beautiful during summer.

Tips for planting lilies in compact soil: The scaly bulbs of large lilies don't like clay soils that suffocate them and cause rotting. In Eastern Europe, they are planted on 'benches' built above ground level. These benches consist of a layer of gravel, on which well-packed branches are placed. Then cover everything with a thick layer of compost 20 to 30 cm (8 to 12in) deep. Plant the bulbs in the compost, on which a few ground-covering plants can also be allowed to crawl.
On the terrace, you can create sumptuous pots with lilies. Choose a container that is large and deep enough (at least 16 cm (6in) for one bulb). Fill it with a mixture of garden soil, leaf compost, and sand. Plant the lilies in groups of 3 to 5 bulbs depending on the size of the pot, at a distance of 10-15 cm (4-6in), then water abundantly. Place the pots in a cool room or outside once the frost has passed. Apply liquid fertiliser twice a month until the appearance of flower buds.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).

It will vary according to where you live:
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
