Description

The Green Serifon Mustard is a winter variety of Asian mustard that is robust and resistant to both cold and hot temperatures. Its large green leaves are highly serrated. Its spicy flavor increases with age. It is best consumed fresh but can be easily preserved in salt. Sow in March/April and September/October for harvest 2 months later.

Chinese Mustard will require a supply of well-decomposed compost (3 kg/m²).

Harvest: Harvest Chinese Mustard, leaf by leaf, as needed.

Storage: Mustard leaves should be consumed as soon as possible.

Gardener's tip: Regular weeding and hoeing are recommended. A protective insect netting can be installed against flea beetles.

Organic or "AB" seeds come from plants grown in organic agriculture (without the use of pesticides). They undergo no treatment after harvest. These seeds are suitable for organic farming.

Planting and care

Sowing

from March to April and from August to September.

The seeds are sown thinly in loosened soil, with rows spaced 40 cm (16in) apart. Cover the seeds with half a centimetre of compost or fine soil. Gently press down with the back of a rake and water with a fine spray. Keep sufficiently moist until germination, which generally takes 8 days.

Maintenance

When the young plants have 4 to 5 leaves, thin them out, leaving one plant every 25 cm (10in). Weed and water regularly.
