Yardlong Beans, Dolichos Beans, Chinese Long Beans or Snake Beans - Vigna unguiculata subsp. sesquipedalis - are a species of Leguminosae cultivated in vegetable gardens for their exceptionally long pods: they form 80 cm (32in) long lianas or more, with both the pods and seeds being edible. Their surprising flavour is a combination of that of green beans and asparagus. They are prepared like green beans that have been cut into pieces beforehand. Yardlong Beans require a lot of heat, so plant them in a very sunny spot.
