According to their geographical origin, trees and bushes do not have the same climate requirements: thus, Hydrangea microphylla, which can be found in Japan, appreciates oceanic climates, with mild winters and fairly cool summers. Cotinus, native to the Mediterranean Basin, will appreciate hot and dry summers and mild and humid winters. Bushes from continental climates, like the Canadian serviceberry, thrive in areas with highly contrasting climates: hot in summer, very cold in winter, with sometimes more than a 30 °C (86°F) difference between the two. Finally, plants from montane climates like the larch are tough cookies that withstand not only low temperatures, but also difficult conditions such as wind and snow.
