Hosta Lets Twist Again

Hosta 'Let's Twist Again', derived from the famous variety  Patriot, is distinguished by its particularly undulate and beautifully twisted long leaves, evoking the shape of Hosta 'Wheee!'lightly green marbled, but with wide margins of cream-white to light yellow on a dark green background which is marbled with light green. It is a hosta with moderate growth that has lavender summer flowers. A very hardy perennial and a characterful variety, ideal for brightening up cool and shaded areas of the garden or terrace.

Hosta 'Let's Twist Again' is a deciduous herbaceous plant, very hardy, whose vegetation emerges from the ground in spring. It belongs to the asparagus family. Slow-growing but long-lived, this variety forms a beautiful clump of leaves reaching about 30 cm (12in) in height and 50 cm (20in) in width, depending on the growing conditions. Its leaves are elongated, lanceolate with cordate bases, smooth margins, and pointed tips. Its lamina is traversed by ample undulations and discreet veins. Flower stems, about 40 cm (16in) tall, emerge from the centre of its variegated foliage in July-August, bearing clusters of lavender bell-shaped flowers which are not fragrant.

Hostas like damp, well-drained and rich soils.  These plants dislike drought and scorching sun.  Do not plant in a position that is exposed to afternoon sun as it can burn the leaves of these perennials. With their generous and decorative foliage, hostas are perfect as groundcover, in borders or in partially shaded or shaded flowerbeds. Combine them in groups with other hostas, ferns, delphiniums, Solomon's seal, and other low-growing groundcover perennials such as creeping bugle, geraniums, and lamiums. This way, you can enhance the shaded and slightly damp parts of the garden. Hostas also thrive in pots that should be placed in partial-shade and watered regularly. Around a pond, plant them with persicarias, carex and astilbes.

Most of the species commonly found in our gardens have been introduced from Japan. Edible, hostas are called urui in Japan where they are commonly consumed.
